Colette Silver is a pediatric occupational therapist with a private practice in Chevy Chase, Maryland.
Colette focuses on the evaluation and treatment of the foundational processes that support development of motor, cognitive and social emotional skills of children from birth to age 8 years.
One of these processes, Sensory Integration, is the ability to orient to, regulate and integrate sensory stimuli, both internal and external, and make an appropriate adaptive response. Interventions often focus on the Tactile, Vestibular and Propriocpetive systems in addition to visual, auditory, taste and smell. The inability to integrate senses may affect motor, cognitive, and emotional development causing stress and confusion.
Another foundational process is Reflex Integration. Colette has been a Core Specialist in the Masgutova Method for NeuroSensoriMotor Reflex Integration (MNRI) since 2020.
The MNRI Method is based on understanding the two pathways of perception of the external world- classic (cortical or consciously controlled) and sub-cortical (natural, spontaneous, reflexive response). A child and an adult in stress automatically use their sub-cortical brain and its survival mechanisms. Stress comes in many forms - it could have been a traumatic birth, trauma, sensory overload or even being asked to stand still.
Currently, the majority of methods use a cortical approach and thereby limit the therapeutic outcome and effects. In contrast, MNRI’s uses manual techniques and specific passive or active movement patterns to work on a sub-cortical level. This allows the problem to be addressed at its level of cause bringing natural recovery and neuromodulation.
Colette is also certified to administer the Safe and Sound Protocol, and Rest and Restore Protocol. These are listening programs developed by Dr. Steven Proges and administered by Untye. They use structured, evidence-based sound interventions to support nervous system regulation. They are used in the clinic during treatment or remotely.
